Operation Warm – A Toasty Success!

Operation Warm was an incredible successful event.   Our Rotary provided coats for 211 children at Mitchell Elementary School.  Thanks to more than a dozen Rotarians who turned out to helped distribute coats to the kids!

Rotary Student and Educator of the Month Program

Of course every time we recognize our students and educators is special, but this week’s presentation was exceptional.  First, it is our last presentation for 2023.  We will recognize our December honorees in January.  Second, we again have a repeat recipient.  Our Educator of the Month for November is Jennifer Bermudez, who we also honored in September 2022, showing that a commitment to excellence does not ebb with time.  Ms. Bermudez is the Reading Coach and she is a joy to be around and work with.  She is always willing to help, listen and problem solve and her help and knowledge are a great asset for Mitchell.  Finally, as you may recall we were only able to recognize our educator of the month in October, but this month we have the privilege of recognizing two students.  The Student of the Month for October is NyAsia Miller.  NyAsia sets a high bar in the classroom, but always makes her classmates smile.  She is respectful, kind and ambitious and encourages her peers to excel as she does.  Her quick thinking allows her to process new learning and master new skills meaning that she will continue to shine throughout her Mitchell career and beyond.  Unfortunately, NyAsia was not able to attend our meeting, but her certificate and gift card will be delivered to her nonetheless.  The November Student of the Month is Terrance Green.  Terrance is a kind and quiet young man.  He has excellent manners with students and adults alike and his friends enjoy his company and working with him.  Terrance, who was accompanied by his mother, Tameka Foster Green, showed why both teachers and students appreciate him so much as he stood before us with his infectious smile and handsome suit.

Other members can also sign up to explore and potentially help with Club committees as well, as follows:

WELLNESS TIP

Slow Down and Savor

This is one of the easiest ways to enjoy your holiday meal without going overboard. Just by eating slower, you’ll consume fewer calories. If you eat too fast, you can easily eat past the point of fullness. However, eating slowly gives your brain time to signal from your stomach that it’s full.

Slowing down also gives you the chance to appreciate the food before you. So eat slowly and really taste the food instead of wolfing it down. Put your fork down between bites and savor each mouthful of food. Enjoy all the delicious things you are eating.
