Our own Channing Proctor gave us an inspiring talk about the Miracle League, a baseball program designed for people with disabilities, From its humble beginnings in suburban Atlanta, where Channing first came across it, to a nationwide program, Channing talked about how he helped spearhead the program in Charleston. He led an ambitious fundraising initiative, even raffling off his prized classic car to help raise money. The field was built and the Charleston Miracle League thrives today, with Channing’s own son as one of its marquee participants. We’ll get a chance to see the Miracle League in action at our April 20 community service event “Fans in the Stands.’ C’mon out and cheer them on.

If you are planning to bring a guest to Rotary, it is important that you let Carroll know by no later than Monday at 5pm. There is some preparation that needs to be done for all guests prior to the meeting. Guest fee is $30 paid at the door. First-time prospective members are free.

Due to inclement weather this past Wednesday, the March Social at Saltwater Cowboys was postponed. The new date is Wednesday, April 24 from 5pm-7pm. Please mark your calendars now to join us!

Charleston Miracle League
Our club members are encourage to come out and support the Charleston Miracle League as “fans in the stands” on Saturday, April 20th. Charleston Miracle League gives adults and children with special needs the opportunity to enjoy the game of baseball.
Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry
On Saturday, April 27, volunteers are needed to assist the Children’s Museum with packing camp bags. Detailed information and a sign up to follow.

Nominations for Community Impact Recognition Award for a Community Member
Our Club’s Awards Selection Committee, chaired by Pres-Elect Robert Sullivan, is currently accepting nominations from our Club members for our annual Community Impact Recognition Award for a Community Member.
The Community Impact Award – Community Leader is given annually by the Rotary Club of Charleston to a community member who exhibits “Service Above Self” in their daily activities, models the Rotary 4-Way Test* in their life and profession, and exemplifies the ideals of the Rotary Vision: “Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.”
Please help the committee by filling out the nomination form with someone in our community who you feel meets these criteria and deserves to be recognized by our club. The nomination form was emailed last week. If you have any questions or need the form, please contact Robert Sullivan at robert.sullivan@carolinaoneplus.com or at 843-864-4600.

BLUE BUCKETS/HAPPY BUCKS FOR APRIL
The Blue Buckets will be on the tables again this month. Your generous donations will go to The CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund. The CART Fund is a non-profit grassroots organization that provides “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research grants to help find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. We are pleased to have Tiffany Irvin join us at the end of the month as our guest speaker to update us on The CART Fund.
District-Wide March Membership Madness Challenge
Who will be the first club to take on the March Membership Madness challenge? March Madness in basketball is all about shooting 3-Pointers from downtown. In Rotary, it’s all about attracting new members. All clubs who shoot 3-Pointers and grow membership by 3 new members from March 1 through April 30 will be recognized and receive a special award at Spring Training Assembly on May 3. A Grand Prize of $400 will be given in honor of the club who brings in the most new members to the Community Service Organization (501-c-3) of their choice.
Knowing our Club members and our excellent Membership Committee Team, on behalf of our Rotary Club, President Cleave has replied and accepted the District’s challenge.
Our club will be using existing Paul Harris Fellow points to reward current members who bring prospective members to our weekly luncheons and who join our Rotary Club. A current member, who brings a prospective member to a luncheon, will receive 100 Paul Harris Fellow points. If a current member has one of their prospective members submit an application to the club, they will receive 250 Paul Harris Fellow points. Paul Harris Fellow Points equal one point per dollar and are added to a member’s current Rotary Foundation donation total (i.e. If you have donated $750, 250 points will get you to $1000 or a PHF.)
This promotion will be held from March 19 – May 31, 2024. We encourage all members to bring a potential member to Rotary over the next two months and let’s make March Membership Madness a Slam Dunk!
Support The CART Fund
It is easy for club members to make individual contributions and support The CART Fund electronically. The CART Fund has new portal www.mycartfund.org, which you can easily access. As a Rotarian and a DACdb user, you automatically have an account already set-up in your name. Your user name and password are the same as it is for the DACdb.

Congratulations to our March Madness winners! Ricky Bailey was the overall winner in the Men’s Basketball Bracket with Michael Smith taking 2nd and 3rd Place! President Cleave and his daughter, Katherine, took 1st and 2nd Place in the women’s bracket. Karen Byko (Rob’s wife) was our 3rd place finisher. Thanks to all who participated! $500 was raised for the Rotary Club of Charleston Fund.
