October 7, 2014 — U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn, who represents the Sixth Congressional District in South Carolina, spoke to our Club this week.  Clyburn, as Assistant Democratic Leader in Congress, is the third ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives.    Clyburn began serving in Congress in 1993, after winning more than 50% of the popular vote despite being part of a field of 5 candidates.  Since then, he has held a number of important positions in national politics, including Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Chair of the Democratic Caucus, and House Majority Whip.  Continue reading “U.S. Congressman James Clyburn”

Patrick Bryant — One Cent Sales Tax – Yes 4 Schools

September 30, 2014 — We were pleased to have Patrick Bryant speak to us about the Charleston County one cent sales taxes extension campaign, Yes 4 Schools.   Patrick is an entrepreneur who likes starting companies from an idea and then developing that idea into a successful business. He started his first company, Bryant Design at the age of 16. He currently is a partner in: Go To Team, Cigar Row and South Easton Systems. Patrick also serves on the Charleston Chamber of Commerce Board, which is supportive of the extension of the one cent sales tax for Charleston County School.
