NEWS BRIEFS
Volunteers Needed for Financial Literacy Service Project – Burke High School
Rotarian volunteers are needed during the week of March 4 – 8th to help students at Burke High School find their financial footing through the “Game of Life.” Each student will learn financial literacy throughout the week by managing their bank accounts, earning money through Lunch and Learns, and learning about the very basics of financial independence – all for the sake of cold hard cash! We are looking for people to help facilitate the “Lunch and Learns” each day with a curriculum provided by Junior Achievement. You will have students from 12:05 – 12:50 and teach them the basics from budgeting to credit to wise investing. We are also looking for people to facilitate the Friday competition where the top four earners from each grade show off what they learned in a “Money Bowl” to talk away with whatever their ending balance is! Help us teach students the financial literacy necessary to take to their families and make better life decisions!

ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (RLI)
All Rotarians are invited to attend the upcoming Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) being held in Charleston at Trident Technical College on March 21.
RLI is a series of three class sessions, Parts I, II, and III, for Rotarians to learn more about Rotary and develop leadership skills. At other times, these sessions are offered in-person or virtually with Zoom.
RLI mission: “The purpose of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is to strengthen your club and strengthen your life. Rotary provides an opportunity for all of us to provide service to our community and throughout the world (Service Above Self). With that service comes a learning experience in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication and organization. RLI provides an opportunity to enrich that learning through sharing experiences and ideas with other Rotarians throughout the region.”

MEMBER NEWS
It is with great sadness that we convey to you news of the passing of two outstanding long-time Rotarians – Merrill B. Wish and William “Bill” T. Clowney. This two gentlemen will be greatly missed in our community. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with their families.
Former Rotarian, Merrill B. Wish passed away on Feb. 14th. Some of you fondly remember Merrill, who was an outstanding, long-standing member of our Rotary Club for 43 years, from 1969 to 2012, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. In his obituary it mentions, “He was a member of the Charleston Rotary Club with perfect attendance for 40 years.”
Fellow Rotarian Willam “Bill” T. Clowney passed away on Feb. 10th. Many of our long-time members will remember Bill, who was born and raised in Charleston. He spent much of his professional career in Columbia, where he was a long-standing member of Rotary. As is stated in his obituary, “Travel and service through leadership was a lifelong passion for Bill, as was his devotion to Rotary International, where he served as Past President of The Rotary Club of Columbia and also served District 7770 as former District Governor. He received numerous Rotarian awards to include being recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.” While away, Bill retained his ties to the Charleston area (including “… he especially loved spending time at his beach house on the Isle of Palms…”) and Carroll remembers Bill as a frequent visiting Rotarian to our Club. In addition, when he and his wife returned to Charleston to live, he was a member of our Rotary Club in 2014-15.
