Condon campaigns against terrorism
Former attorney general addresses members on platform

Charlie CondonSEPT. 16, 2003 - U.S. Senate candidate Charlie Condon said the most important issue to the country now is the need to successfully fight international terrorism.

In a speech marked by cordial applause, Condon said he fully supported President Bush's policy of pre-emption in dealing with international terrorism.

"I think that is going to be the central calling of our time," the former state attorney general said.

Condon also vowed to be tough on illegal immigrants.

"I would not allow anyone in this country from any enemy country unless they were seeking political asylum," he said. "The doctrine of pre-emption is really important in defending our country from terrorists."

Condon also said he supported American troops staying in Iraq "as long as it takes."

"I firmly believe the cost will be much, much higher unless we follow through to defend this country through the doctrine of pre-emption," he said.

Condon also said he was for increasing domestic oil production, increasing fuel efficiencies of automobiles.

He said the country needed to revisit how it interacts with Communist China.

In coming months, the club will feature other Senate candidates.
